The devotion to St. Expeditus is beginning to grow again throughout the world, and so we present this stunning painting for your devotion. His Feast Day is April 19th. Little is known of him, other than he was a Roman centurion who was martyred in the 4th century under the Diocletian persecutions in modern day Malatya, Turkey. A staple in the Roman Martyrology, he is primarily the Patron Saint of Procrastinators. However, in the last several centuries, he is invoked also when we need something in a hurry. His devotees rely on him when time is of the essence as much as we have a devotion to St. Anthony to help us find things that have been lost.
This painting is mounted on the left side Rococo altar of the Church of Our Lady before Tyn in Prague (in Bohemia, modern day Czech Republic). František Xaver Palko painted this beautiful rendition of the centurion in 1760.
