St. Anne Teaching the Virgin to Read
Bartolomè Esteban Murillo's "St. Anne Teaching the Virgin to Read" is a moving depiction of the Mother of God being taught by her Mother, St Anne. Murrillo uses a brilliant array of pinks, reds, blues, whites and a wide array of golden hues to convey a feminine atmosphere throughout the painting. The love in the eyes of St. Anne as she speaks to her daughter, is a sermon in motherhood by itself. The peaceful gaze of Mary towards her mother shows a depth of wisdom that could only be present in a girl destined to be the Mother of God and the Mother of us all.
